Opening Keynote Speaker - Lucy Harris
Thursday June 4, 2026 8:00am - 8:45am MDT
Lucy Harris is a 13‑year‑old adaptive athlete and passionate advocate for disability inclusion. After a motor vehicle accident at age ten left her paralyzed, Lucy set out to prove that her athletic goals didn’t disappear—they simply changed direction. With determination and a competitive spirit, she has embraced adaptive sports and used her voice to educate others about accessibility, resilience, and the power of perseverance.
Since her injury, Lucy has explored a wide range of adaptive activities, including sled hockey, rock climbing, white‑water rafting, hiking, and even completing a 5K. Her current favorite sports include wheelchair basketball, skiing, cycling, racing, paddleboarding, swimming, and staying active through CrossFit.
Lucy frequently speaks to schools and community groups about adaptive athletics and disability rights, encouraging others to rethink what athletes look like. She believes every student deserves the opportunity to be seen as a competitor—not a spectator—and she works every day to help make that vision a reality.

"INTRODUCTION TO BEHAVIORAL ADDICTIONS & DIGITAL MEDIA OVERUSE (DMO)"
Thursday June 4, 2026 8:55am - 10:05am MDT

This presentation examines digital media overuse (DMO) as a form of behavioral addiction and its impact on youth mental health and academic functioning. Negative outcomes related to different kinds of use, especially when screen time displaces essential developmental activities such as sleep, physical activity, academic work, and face-to-face social interaction will be discussed. Mental health related outcomes  like  increased risk of depression, social isolation, and suicide-related issues are shared. The presentation highlights how digital platforms are intentionally designed to exploit core psychological needs; competence, relatedness, and autonomy, thereby reinforcing compulsive use patterns. Particular risks are outlined across domains including gaming, social media, AI chatbots, online shopping, gambling pathways, and early exposure to pornography. Vulnerability is heightened among youth with ADHD, anxiety, depression, and executive functioning challenges. Prevention and intervention strategies that are focused on reducing screen time, strengthening real-world social connections, and promoting “low dopamine” activities such as outdoor play, reading, and exercise will be discussed. Practical guidance includes establishing screen boundaries, prioritizing developmental tasks, and fostering open, empathetic communication with youth.

Intelligent Assessment in Physical Education: Using AI to Increase Efficiency and Effectiveness
Thursday June 4, 2026 12:45pm - 1:55pm MDT
Assessment in physical education is complex. Large class sizes, movement-based learning, and limited time often push grading toward “participation points” rather than meaningful evidence of student learning. This interactive, hands-on session is designed specifically for K–12 physical education teachers who want to use artificial intelligence (AI) to make assessment more efficient, more aligned to standards, and more impactful.
Participants will learn practical strategies for using AI to generate standards-aligned rubrics, formative assessments, and cognitive and affective learning checks. Through guided demonstrations and structured practice, teachers will apply effective prompting techniques to create tools tailored to their own upcoming units. The session will also demonstrate how AI can assist with analyzing skill progress, identifying trends in student data, and informing instructional decisions.
Importantly, this workshop emphasizes ethical, safe, and responsible AI use in schools—protecting student privacy while maintaining teacher judgment and professional expertise. Attendees will leave with ready-to-use prompts, templates, and clear boundaries for implementation, ensuring AI enhances, rather than replaces, high-quality physical education teaching and learning.

Thursday June 4, 2026 4:30pm - 7:00pm MDT
The conference may be over, but the socializing doesn't have to be.    Join us for Day 2 of Yappy Hour. Same place, different bar!    We will be hanging out and choosing from the variety of taps at the Stanley Beer Hall.

Check out their menu here for food and drinks.

***Jen Smith will be flying out at 8:50 from DEN that evening. She will be going to the social for a short while to celebrate her birthday and this amazing event before heading to the airport.   If anyone else has a PM flight and wants to catch a ride to the social and airport, let her know.  303-590-5893
